I am a LEED certified, registered architect in California, obtaining my Bachelor of Architecture degree from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in 1984. I'm a native Santa Barbaran, and started as an drafting intern at the age of 15. While in college, I traveled to Europe, studying design in France, Spain and Italy. After graduation, I was awarded a Rotary International Scholarship to study architecture for a year at the Tokyo University of Arts and Music. After returning to Santa Barbara, I began my career at Brian Cearnal Associates. I designed widely diverse character homes and commercial projects in Santa Barbara’s distinctive style and was licensed in 1989. It was also there that I met Peter Ehlen and our friendship began.
I then joined David Bury & Company Architects Ltd. in Ojai in 1996, where I remained for the following 15 years as his Senior Associate Architect. The firm specialized in resorts and spas, as well as single-family private residential work. I designed projects such as Spa Terra at the Meritage Resort in Napa, creating the only cave spa in the United States, as well as designing projects for the Roman Spa in Calistoga, the Ojai Valley Inn and The Oaks of Ojai. After David passed away in 2011, I was pleased to join Pete at East Beach Ventures, where I continue to design projects incorporating the client's unique vision into the architectural style they prefer or require, as well as putting together the firm’s presentation work. Long ago, one of my clients told me, as we were walking through his finished home, that it was exactly what he would have done, had he been an architect. Best compliment ever. |
